This newsletter arrives in your inbox on Friday, so let's assume you've survived your turkey gorge fest, the football games are over, and the giant Pillsbury Doughboy balloon has by now been deflated and put into storage for another year. Happy post-Thanksgiving Day. If you're contemplating joining the throng for all those Black Friday sales, here's another thought: Do your shopping online instead. You can use the time you save to fix all those niggling little Windows annoyances you've been meaning to deal with for a while: Get rid of the Windows login, disable automatic reboots, maybe even replace the Office 2007 ribbon with the bygone (but comprehensible) Office 2003-style menus. None of these will take more than a few minutes, especially if you follow the instructions in Christopher Null's "Fast Fixes for Office Annoyances." I have to believe it will be time well spent.
